History of the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Center
The Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Center Foundation, conceived, established and funded by the family of Lazaros Efraimoglou, is a privately funded, non-profit cultural institution.
Hellenic Cosmos was inaugurated in 1998. It originally occupied 16,000 m2 and was housed in a former industrial building that has been transformed into a state-of-the-art museum. Various buildings were added over time until Hellenic Cosmos finally reached its current size, covering over 60,000 m2.
The most prominent building is the Tholos, reminiscent of a planetarium with its round dome and rings around its exterior. Tholos dominates the architecture of Pireos Street where Hellenic Cosmos is located.
The productions are conceived and implemented almost entirely by a permanent team, made up of archaeologists, historians, translators, editors, architects, museologists, museum educators, computer scientists, graphic designers, multimedia designers and creators of 3D digital reconstructions, many of whom have an academic degree or have a PhD.
Nowadays the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Center attracts thousands of visitors every year.
