Athens International Airport [ATH] is called Eleftherios Venizelos, named after former Greek Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos (1864-1936), who championed aviation in Greece.
The airport is operated as a private company with 45% state participation. It is located about 30 kilometers east of the city center and was opened in 2001. The airport is divided into two areas, Area A, the non-Schengen area, and Area B, the Schengen area.
Eleftherios Venizelos has 2 runways and a main terminal and a satellite terminal located between the two runways. It handles over 20 million passengers per year, and 25.5 million in 2019. This makes Athens the 26th busiest airport in Europe.

Eleftherios Venizelos Airport is the home airport and hub of Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air. In total, about 60 airlines fly to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens.

Public Transport
- Metro
Eleftherios Venizelos Airport is connected to the Athens metro network. Blue line number 1 connects Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport with Syntagma Square or Monastiraki in downtown Athens.
Those who want to get from the airport to the Athens-Larissa main station can change at the Syntagma stop.
The metro ticket costs 10 euros, the travel time from the metro stations is about 40 minutes.
- Suburban Train - Proastiakos
The suburban train runs from the airport to the city center, the trip takes about 40 minutes. At the Douk Plakentias suburban train station there is a possibility to change to metro line 3, blue line.

From Athens Syntagma Square there is the Airport Express Bus X95 to Athens Airport. The trip takes about 1 hour and costs 5 euros.
- Express Bus
Line X96 goes from the airport to Piraeus Port, line X93 goes to Kiffisos Bus Station and line X97 goes to Dafni Metro Station.
Express bus stops are located on the arrivals level between exits 4 and 5.
- Regional Bus
The airport is served by regional buses of the KTEL Express company, which currently offer connections to Rafina, Markopoulo, Lavrio, Kalyvia and Keratea.

1. Taxi
In Greece, taxi fares are set by the authorities of cities or counties. The taxi fare for Athens was last set in July 2015 and published in the official fare ordinance.

The UBER company has its headquarters in San Francisco, USA. It is a US-based service company that arranges services for transportation in many cities worldwide online.
Once you have downloaded the app on your phone, you can use the UBER services. When you order an UBER, you will be told the price for the route you want to take. Payment is made by credit card, Eurocard, PayPal or Google Play.
Transfer to Piraeus
The ferry port is connected to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport by the suburban train, Proastiakos, the journey takes about 90 minutes.

Stores at Eleftherios Venizelos Athens Airport are generally open from Monday to Sunday, with many open from 06:00 to 22:00. There is even a small museum in the airport. The permanent exhibition shows about 170 archaeological finds, which were found during the construction of the airport, as well as from Athens and the surrounding region. Among them are arrowheads from the Bronze Age and jewelry from around 500 BC. The exhibition was set up in collaboration with the Acropolis Museum. It is located above the departure hall and is open to all guests, admission is free, open between 6:00 and 23:00.

The airport offers short-term parking for up to five hours with 1,357 spaces in the P1 and P2 parking lots.
Long-term parking is located on the other side of the airport's main access road, Attiki Odos, with 5,802 spaces in parking lot P3. The P3 long-term parking lot is connected to the main terminal building by a pedestrian bridge. In addition, a free shuttle bus runs every 10 minutes. The shuttle bus stop to parking lot P3 is located at doors 1 and 5 in front of the arrivals area of the main terminal building.
